A man, whose daughter was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old man, has told an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court that the suspect should be allowed to go.
The Punch reports that the father lays his request on a medical test conducted on the victim had revealed she was not infected with any disease, adding that he had discovered that the suspect had a mental problem.
“I don’t want to have any case with him. He has a mental problem,” the father of the alleged victim told the court. “A medical test has shown that my daughter is okay. I am not interested in pursuing any case against him.”
The suspect, Oyetiola Olatunju, a cart pusher, was arraigned by the police on two counts for allegedly raping the 14-year-old victim at the Agbado, Oke-Odo, Ile-Epo area of Lagos.
“That you, Oyetiola Olatunju, on July 3, 2014, at Yusuf Yekini Street, Agbado, Oke-Odo, Ile-Epo, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully caused a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activities with you without her consent. That you did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl,” the charge brought by police prosecutor, ASP Etim Nkankuk.
The offence was punishable under Section 264 and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The mater was adjourned till October 8, 2014 for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions on the request of the police prosecutor.
The Chief Magistrate, O.O. Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
