Sadio Mane has reportedly made a decision on his future and will ask to leave Liverpool this summer, with Bayern Munich favourites to sign the forward.
Mane, alongside fellow Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, has been the subject of much transfer speculation this season, with both players out of contract next summer.
Earlier in the week, the Senegal international commented on the matter, saying: ‘If I’m staying or not, I’m going to answer after the Champions League [final on Saturday].’
True to his word it appears an answer has now been given, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting on Twitter that: ‘Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer.
‘He’s ready for a new experience after many special years with Reds – it will be confirmed to the club.
‘Bayern are strong contenders – but it’s still open and not completed as Sadio wanted to wait for the final.’
Liverpool lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid 1-0, courtesy of a Vinicius Jr. goal, and while this was not the ending that Mane would have wanted, the 30-year-old still believes that the time is right to move on.
Mane moved to Anfield in 2016 from Southampton and is now a Reds legend, having scored 120 goals and 48 assists for Jurgen Klopp’s side, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
Bayern Munich have long been the favourites to sign Mane, and the German giants believe they can land the forward for a cut-price fee of just £27.5million, given his contract situation.
Klopp and Liverpool will no doubt be looking to renew Mane’s stay at the club, but the purchase of winger Luis Diaz from Porto in January will have lessened the blow of losing their star player.
