Former governor of Edo state, Lucky Igbinedion has lost his mother, Madam Oredola Igbinedion.
She was reportedly strangled to death by her house maid on December 2, 2021.
The suspect is said to have fled after she died, A close family source said that security forces have been alerted with a view to track the her down.
“Any amount, I repeat, any amount will be paid for information leading to the arrest of this girl. She is a murder suspect and is wanted by the police and Benin people,” he said.
Maria Oredola was the first wife of the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion. She is survived by her husband Chief Igbinedion, her children former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Bright Igbinedion, Charles Igbinedion, Mabel Amadin, and many grandchildren.
The family in a statement announced the death of the matriarch saying, “With gratitude to God for a fruitful and eventful life, we announce the transition to glory of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion who joined the Saints in the early hours of December 2, 2021, at the age of 85. She is survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
Funeral arrangement has been announced by the family. According to program, a service of songs will be held for the deceased on Thursday, 9 December 2021. She will be interred on Friday, December 10, after a funeral service at St. Augustine Catholic Church, by Water Resources Off Ugbor Road, in Benin.
