Isaac Adewole, a former Minister of Health and member of the Lancet Commission on Oncology, has said Nigeria needs more radiotherapy machines to improve access to cancer care in the country.
Adewole said this had become imperative for better treatment outcomes among cancer patients, lamenting that only two radiotherapy machines were working in the country.
The former minister spoke on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, during a product presentation in Abuja by Stepcho Nigeria Limited in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Bebig Medical.
He said, “We will gain more as a country when we offer treatment to our people. Then they will develop trust in public health and we will give them confidence about getting quality care.
“Ideally, we need at least four machines for one million people to offer effective treatment. There shouldn’t be less than 200 machines working in Nigeria.
“We have only two machines working in Nigeria. So, there is room for 198 machines in Nigeria. The provision of these machines will prevent Nigerians from going out of the country to access care.”
Bebig’s sales directors, Hamidi Sabrina and Mohammadi Reza, said their new Bebig LINAC machine was designed to deliver cancer care services in the country.

As it was read by the Senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bukola Saraki In the second Batch of the ministerial nominee during the plenary section of the parliament on 13th of Oct. 2015; that Prof. Isaac Adewole is the ministerial nominee from Osun state.
We will like to state it clear that we as a group believe in change because change is the most constant thing in life.
We are not affiliated to any political party but we are concerned Youth Groups that believes in Justice, equity, and fairness. In view of this, we humbly condemn the nomination of Prof. Isaac Adewole as the ministerial nominee from Osun state.
The immediate past vice chancellor of University of Ibadan hailed from Ilesha but never had anything to do with Osun state since creation, neither as he added any value to the development of our dear state.
We also want to challenge President Mohammadu Buhari if the ministerial list is to bring forth the change that Nigerians clamoured for or to compensate those that work for emergence of his party (APC) fraudulently or otherwise. We want to bring down to memory lane of Mr President that he once said “I belong to nobody, I belong to everybody” if this is true and genuine why using Osun ministerial slot to compensate the INEC returning officer of Lagos state during the last election.
As a concerned Youth Groups of the state who understand the political terrain of the state, strongly SAY NO to the nomination of Prof. Isaac Adewole who is from the same town, Federal constituency, and the same senatorial district with the sitting Governor of the state. IS THIS DEMOCRACY OR DEMAGOGUE?
Therefore we call on urgent redress on this issue if genuinely this government is an advocate of change.
Be that as it may, the recent clampdown on the youths of Osun State in Tertiary Institutions who are pressing home their constitutional rights for education is uncalled for, unspeakable, and undemocratic.
The peaceful protesters were annihilated, brutalized, and arrested while their vehicles seized by the fierce policemen, allegedly on the orders of the governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
We as progressive youths of this state, do vehemently condemn this scenario. While we condemn this in its entirety, we demand the immediate release of the arrested students, rehabilitation of those brutalized, and release of the Aluta vehicles in the police custody.
We also note with remorse that the four state-owned tertiary Institutions be reopened and their lecturers paid their entitlements with immediate effect.
For the purpose of emphasis, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, and Colleges of Education at Ilesa and Ila-Orangun must be opened now since their closure to academic activities as far back as January 2015.
