Two middle-aged men are said to have died in Okolore, Kwale area of Delta State after allegedly consuming locally distilled gin, popularly known as ogogoro.
Following deaths in Ondo and Rivers States, the Federal Government placed a ban on the sale and consumption of the product, although its enforcement is going to be a herculean task.
Leadership Newspaper reports that the deceased pair (names withheld) died over the weekend along a bush path after they had both taken “two shots” of the local gin prepared with herbs.
It is unknown if the gin was the cause of the deaths although residents of the area said the men had were related, regular consumers of the product, and have never married.ASP Uwuigbe Nosakhare, the Delta State police spokesman confirmed the deaths, adding that the police will was investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
