The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 expressed its support the N145 proposed by the federal government as the new pump price of fuel.
The senate came to the conclusion after an executive session with the presidency in which the Buhari led executive explained how the increase of 70% in pump price was arrived at, Premium Times reports.
The position of the Senate was communicated by deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who said, “The senate sympathise with the people of Nigeria on the hardship brought by the hike.”
Ekweremadu promised that the senate “will engage the federal government on how to implement and sustain the policy”. But, he didn’t explain the policy he was referring to.
He also said that the presidency should begin implementing the social intervention policies contained in the 2016 budget as to “minimize the suffering of Nigerians”.
