KADUNA, Nigeria — In a brazen attack on Sunday, May 7, 2023, suspected kidnappers stormed the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and kidnapped nine of his children and grandchildren, as well as three other people from the town in Kaduna.
Alhaji Musa Jibril, a community member, told journalists that the bandits arrived in the town around 11:15 pm and headed straight to the Emir’s palace.
“They took away nine children and grandchildren and his youngest wife, who later managed to escape,” Jibril said.
According to Jibril, the gunmen also abducted three other community members, including a lady. They injured Audu Kwakulu, a resident of Ungwan Pah, who is currently at the hospital receiving treatment.
On their way out of the town, the bandits reportedly killed a herdsman in Kuchimi village and looted seven shops in Janjala village, both in the Kagarko Local Government Area.
The Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, DSP Muhammed Jalige, has yet to respond to calls at the time of filing this report. The attack has left the community in shock and fear, as residents await news of the kidnapped victims.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity, this latest incident serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers that persist in the region.
