Daughter of former military administrator of Kano and Plateau states, brid. general Dominic Oneya, Franca was on Friday, October 10, 2014 killed by armed robbers in Effurun, Uvwie local government area of Delta state, Vanguard reports.
Franca, a mother of four was waylaid by gunmen who fatally shot her along Ovie Palace road, after they had robbed her of about N200,000 which she had just withdrawn moments before at a bank along PTI road.
A resident of the area recounted the incident thus: “It happened by KW Junction. Gunshots rented the air as residents and bystanders scrambled for cover. The shooters disappeared before we were able to reach the crime scene.
“A neighbor with whom we rushed in identified the dead victim in a pool of blood in the Honda Accord in which she was driving as the daughter of a notable politician who turned out to be Gen. Oneya whose GRA residence is nearby. Apparently, the daughter was heading home from bank and the killers actually got away through Oneya Close”.
Speaking on the incident, Delta state governorship aspirant Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor, whose son was killed under similar circumstances in Lagos a few years back had this to say: “I was with him (Oneya) last night! It is a horrible and devastating incident.
“And it highlights our state of insecurity. A vibrant young woman went to the bank and never returned alive. Our hearts bleed! Only God can console General Oneya. Our prayers are with the family.”
Celestina Kalu, the Delta state police spokesperson confirmed the killing, adding that the police will leave no stone unturned in fishing out the culprits.
