Robbers numbering about 15 on Thursday, July 29, 2021, attacked a bullion van conveying cash to Akure, the state capital.
The attack happened in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area.
It was however gathered the robbers failed in the operation as combined security operatives thwarted the move.
Paul Iyiade, an eyewitness, said the driver managed to escape while the robbers shot policemen providing security for the van.
Police sources in Ondo town said several policemen were deployed to different locations to stop the act as well as ensure no life was lost.
Three policemen who sustained gunshot injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment.
A police source said: “It was an unsuccessful attack on a bank’s bullion van going to Akure. Three policemen who sustained injury have been rushed to UNIMED for treatment.”
Tee-Leo Ikoro, the Ondo Police spokesman, could not be reached for comments.
