TRAGEDY: Roadside Trader And 4-Year-Old Son Crushed To Death By Commuter

A Sport Utility Vehicle, which reportedly lost control has crushed one Nsima Sylvester Etim, a fruit seller along Ikot Ekpene road, opposite Food Affairs Eatery, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to death alongside his four-year-old son.

It was gathered that the boy died on the spot while the mother died few hours later in the hospital that she was rushed to.

An eyewitness, who is also a welder, narrated that the incident happened on Wednesday, January 5, 2021, when the driver veered off his lane and rammed into a shop where the woman was standing with her son.

He added that the vehicle also crushed a tricycle parked in front of the shop, adding that he only escaped the tragedy by whisker and by God’s grace.

According to him, “It was God that saved me. I was working on the tricycle when I noticed the SUV coming at a very high speed to my direction, so I ran away from my shop. If I had not runaway, I would have been dead by now.

“The driver hit the woman and her son. The small boy died on the spot and the woman later died in the hospital.”

Also, the brother to the deceased woman, in an interview said, “that woman is my sister. She sells fruits here. This is our family compound. The 4-year-old son died on the spot, she was rushed to the hospital but she died.”

He, however, disclosed that the police arrived the at scene of the accident immediately and took the driver to the police station.

Matthew Olonisaye, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, when contacted, said the accident has not been reported to them yet.
