The governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi on Monday, March 30, 2015 imposed an overnight curfew in the state as tension heightens over local results of the country’s general election.
This was contained in a statement by the information commissioner of the state, Ibim Semenitari.
He said, “The government has imposed a curfew in Rivers state from 7:00 pm (1800 GMT) to 6:00 am to prevent the breakdown of law and order because of the tense political situation.”
Amaechi of All Progressive Congress, APC had previously accused the ruling People’s democratic Party, PDP of rigging votes during the presidential election of Saturday, March 28, 2015.
Ever since he joined APC in 2013, Governor Amaechi has become a major critic of President Jonathan’s PDP-led administration.
