PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has announced that the reconstruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex will be completed within six months.
Ibas made the declaration on Saturday, March 22, 2025, during an inspection of the project, urging the contractor, Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited, to expedite work to meet the deadline.
The reconstruction of the assembly complex is a key part of Ibas’ mandate to restore full legislative activities in the state.
He emphasized the importance of providing a functional workspace for lawmakers to carry out their duties effectively.
“I have been at the executive arm of the state governance structure, and one of the pillars that is missing, for now, is the legislature. For them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from,” Ibas said.
He expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver the project on time, noting that the state government had provided the necessary funds.
“They (contractor) have a schedule and timelines that I believe they will adhere to. The state has done its own bit by providing the necessary funds. The onus is on them to make sure they keep to the terms,” he added.
The new assembly complex, located along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, will feature 34 en-suite offices in a two-storey building, along with an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall.
During the inspection, Ibas was briefed on the progress of the project by Omaka Oko, General Manager of MCC.
The Sole Administrator was accompanied by George Nwaeke, Head of the Rivers State Civil Service.
Ibas reiterated that his primary role as administrator is to maintain law and order while ensuring the smooth functioning of the state government.
“My primary role is to maintain law and order, ensuring that the state government functions as it should,” he said.
