Rivers Administrator Ibas Distances Government From Fake 10,000 Civil Service Recruitment

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The administration of Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, has dismissed reports claiming that the state government plans to recruit 10,000 people into its civil service, calling the information “false and misleading.”

The reports, which circulated on social media on Thursday, April 10, 2025, suggested that the state had initiated a mass recruitment drive for both graduates and non-graduates.

The announcement was reportedly attributed to Ibibia Worika, the secretary to the state government, and claimed that the approval for the recruitment had been granted by Ibas.

The announcement also stated that the recruitment portal would open on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

However, in a counter-statement issued by Inyingi Brown, the acting head of the Rivers State Civil Service on Saturday, April 12, 2025, the state government denied the validity of the reports.

Brown urged the public to disregard the notice, emphasizing that it did not come from any official or authorized channel.

“The Office of the Administrator of Rivers State wishes to disclaim a purported Special Government Announcement spreading round on social media and other platforms,” the statement read.

It continued, “The announcement stated that His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, has approved the recruitment of 10,000 qualified graduates and non-graduates into the Rivers State civil service, and that the recruitment portal shall be opened for application midnight of Sunday 13/04/2025.”

Brown made it clear that the announcement had not been signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika, as claimed, and reiterated that it was entirely false.

The statement further clarified that any official announcements regarding civil service recruitment in Rivers State would be issued by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission through its authorized channels.
