BEVERLY HILLS, USA – Ricky Martin, the Puerto Rican music superstar, and Jwan Yosef, the acclaimed Syrian-Swedish artist, have announced their decision to divorce after six years of marriage.
The couple released a joint statement on Thursday, July 6, 2023 emphasising their commitment to ending their marriage with “love, respect, and dignity” for the sake of their children.
“We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honouring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years,” the couple said in the statement.
They expressed their desire for a peaceful and friendly relationship to jointly raise their children, Lucia and Renn, born in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Ricky Martin will continue to raise his twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, born in 2008, as a single parent.
Martin, 51, and Yosef, 38, first connected via Instagram in 2015 and began dating six months later after meeting in person in London. Their relationship quickly blossomed, and they made it public on the red carpet at the 2016 amFAR Inspiration Gala. The couple announced their engagement the same year and got married in 2018.
Ricky Martin, known for hits like “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” spoke about their marriage during an interview with E! News in January 2018, saying, “I’m a husband, but we’re doing a heavy party in a couple of months. We exchanged vows, and we’ve sworn everything, and we’ve signed all the papers that we needed to sign, prenups and everything.”
Both Martin and Yosef are multilingual and have expressed their commitment to teaching their children multiple languages. Martin mentioned in a 2013 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that his twin sons were enrolled in a French school and that they speak Spanish, English, and French at home.
Yosef has been teaching Arabic to their youngest children, with a focus on the Arabic language rather than English or Swedish.
Jwan Yosef, an accomplished painter and conceptual artist, has won several awards, including the Threadneedle Prize and the Beers Contemporary Award for Emerging Art in London in 2013.
In 2020, he received the Archiproducts Design Award for his designed series of rugs. He also opened a new studio in Los Angeles earlier this year.
As for Ricky Martin, he is gearing up for new projects, including starring in the main cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming period comedy, Palm Royale, alongside Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and Carol Burnett.
Additionally, Martin is scheduled to embark on The Trilogy Tour throughout North America later this year, co-headlining with Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias.
