The re-amended Electoral Act Amendment Bill has been transmitted to the executive arm of government for President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent.
In a statement on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, said authenticated copies of the bill were transmitted on Monday, January 31, 2022.
He confirmed in the statement that Clerk to the National Assembly, Arc. Amos Olatunde Ojo, released the copies before they were forwarded to the executive.
The statement said: “This was done in accordance with the provisions of Section 58 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Acts Authentication Act Cap. A2 LFN 2004.”
President Buhari withheld assent to the earlier passed bill, citing some concerns which were eventually addressed by the parliament.
