The New York Daily News now believes that it has solved the mystery of why Solange Knowles attacked rapper Jay-Z in an elevator. It appears that the battle occurred because Jay was accused of being “too close” to Rachel Roy.
Apparently, Solange didn’t like how Rachel Roy was hanging over Jay during the Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel, according to their sources. This led to her kicking and punching him in the elevator, as her sister Beyonce sat there and watched.
The employee responsible for leaking the elevator video earned $250,000 from TMZ for the footage, and was also fired for his trouble. The hotel has also agreed to cooperate with police so that the person can be prosecuted.

Rachel is the ex-wife of Damon Dash, and apparently, Solange feels that she is responsible for controlling her sister’s marriage. So, she took the matter into her own hands.
“Rachel is a little too close to Jay Z,” a source told The News. “Solange doesn’t like it, and Beyoncé doesn’t like it.”
Another source says that Solange warned Rachel that anyone who gets too close to Jay Z has to be “warned to deal with her as a sister.” Roy didn’t back down to Solange, which caused the two to have an altercation.
“Rachel is combative and a tough girl,” the source said. “She didn’t back down.”
Solange reportedly attacked Jay after he decided that he wanted to keep partying without his wife. Also, when Jay told her that she was out of line for going after Roy, this led to Solange going off on him.
Oh, another thing. Solange thought that Roy was going to be at Rihanna’s party, which Jay-Z was going to be attending that night. Not a good look.
