The provincial headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has cancelled a three-day outdoor crusade of one of its parishes.
Fuji music artiste, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma has been fingered as the reason for the cancellation. Pasuma was invited as a guest artiste for the crusade and this did not go down well with the church’s leadership. The poster printed for the crusade had the faces of the Fuji artiste alongside that of former Egypt 80 band leader, Kereke Jike and gospel singer, Tope Alabi.
Naij.com reports that the crusade was not just cancelled but also led to the suspension of the pastor at the parish where the crusade was to hold alongside members of the crusade’s organizing committee.
The poster for the crusade suggests that Pastor Keji Hamilton was to lead other anointed men of God in the crusade which was slated for Friday, October 23, 2015 to Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 43 Martins street opposite Oluwole Car Park, Lagos.
A Naij.com source revealed that the organizers of the crusade did not consult properly with the church leadership before continuing with the programme.
This is not the first time a controversy is stemming from the choice of artiste invited to perform at a church programme. In April 2015, Mavin Records singer, Korede Bello was a guest performer at HICC (Harvesters International Christian Centre) in Lagos. After performing his hit single, ‘Godwin’ both the artiste and the church were heavily criticized on social media by many who thought bringing a secular artiste to perform in church was a way of desecrating God’s temple.
