We Have Recorded Enough Success – IG Of Police Abba

Must read

– The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police (I-GP), Mr Suleiman Abba, says his target is to transform the police into a scientific force in line with global trend.

Abba made this known in an interview  in Maiduguri on Sunday.

He said that he had also initiated series of campaign for attitudinal changes in the force as a prelude to the transformation.

“One of the tools that I am currently using in reforming the Nigeria Police is the attitudinal change.

“But apart from that, I am also doing a lot to strengthen our intelligence led policing activities,” Abba said.

He added: “Similarly, I look forward to a day when the police will be equipped enough to operate as a technological and scientific force in Nigeria.”

Abba commended the Federal Government for introducing the Police Reform Programme, which had helped in restoring the past glories of the force.

He assured that the police would continue to ensure protection of lives and properties in line with the dictate of the constitution.

“Let me assure Nigerians that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the protection of lives and properties.

“The Federal Government have been implementing the police reform which has spread to the states, the Borno Government has started the process of implementing the reform agenda,” Abba said.

“We have received 40 vehicles purchased by Borno State from the proceeds of funds saved for the police reform.

“I call on other states to please key into this noble idea by allowing for the deduction of the one per cent of their allocations”.

He said that the idea was to bring about an all round development in the police.

“Once the states key in to the reform, we will be able to concentrate on key areas in the reform at the federal level, while the state take care of other areas.

“The key areas include issues of communication, issues of transportation, particularly duty vehicles and many other issues including the building of schools,” Abba said.

He expressed optimism that the police would be equipped to provide better service to Nigerians in a very short while.

“I am sure when we have an equipped police force we will continue to serve you better,” Abba said.

He also commended security agencies for the current victory in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

“We have recorded positive results in recent times in the fight against the insurgents.

“We have recorded enough success to say that in the not too long future most of the violent crimes we are witnessing in Borno will be a thing of the past.

“I also want to commend our colleagues particularly the military as well as other law enforcement and security personnel who have been collaborating together to achieve this feat,” Abba said.

“I also condole and sympathise with the good people of Borno as well as other Nigerians who had suffered unnecessary loses in terms of lives and properties to activities of violent criminals,” said the I-GP.
