HOLLYWOOD, USA – Nicki Minaj, the rapper known for her flamboyant style and hit songs such as “Anaconda” and “Super Bass”, is being sued by a West Hollywood jeweller who claims she owes more than $26,000 for damaging borrowed jewellery.
Celebrity news platform, TMZ reported exclusively on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
According to a lawsuit filed by the Roseark jewellery store, Minaj was loaned 66 pieces of exquisite jewellery for a public appearance, per a contract negotiated by her stylist, Brett Alan Nelson.
The contract stipulated a strict one-week return deadline and held Nelson accountable for any damages incurred during the lending period.
The lawsuit claims that not only did Nelson fail to return the items by the agreed deadline, but also, when the items were eventually returned, a set of earrings and a leaf ring were found to be damaged.
Roseark is now demanding compensation of $26,239, which was reportedly invoiced to Nelson earlier.
However, a source close to Minaj contested Roseark’s allegations, suggesting that the jeweller raised concerns about a missing gemstone only after taking possession of the returned jewellery.
Minaj’s legal team vehemently denies the claims, suggesting the lawsuit is a calculated publicity stunt by the jeweller.
“This lawsuit appears to be nothing more than an ordinary insurance claim by the jeweller designed to generate publicity for itself and extract a payment,” stated Minaj’s attorney.
It remains to be seen how the court will rule in this high-profile clash between a renowned jeweler and one of the music industry’s most influential figures.
The case will certainly put a spotlight on the often unseen negotiations and transactions that occur behind the scenes in the world of celebrity fashion and style.
