Nigerians have called for the Nigerian Police Force to #EndSWAT even beofre it begins.
The Inpector General of Police, IGP, Mr Mohammed Adamu, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 set up Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, team to fill the gaps created by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, dissolution.
This did not go well with the #EndSARS protesters who said SWAT was just a new name for SARS which wil still have he same corrupt police officers with same operations.
Nigerian youths have over the last 8 days held peaceful protests across many states in the country calling for the end of police brutality and extrajudicial killings.
The IGP on October 11 announced the dissolution of SARS with hopes the protests would end.
The move did not deter the protesters who took the protests to larger scales in more states.
With the advent of SWAT, protesters want it dead on arrival as they say changing the name of the rogue unit is not the solution.
