Baking and homeware bible Good Housekeeping are shocking readers with a saucy consumer test on sex toys.
The staid 129-year-old magazine – better known for kitchen gadget trials and cake recipes – have given their verdict on which bedroom aids hit the spot.
They asked a panel of 100 women aged 30 to 80 to try out vibrators shaped like stones, leaves and lipstick.
And testers crowned the £64.99 champion with 77 out of 100. They said the pebble-shaped device was “cute, feminine and not a bit scary”.
The £119 remote-controlled vibrator was runner-up with 74, while the eco-friendly £105 option was third on 70.
The £12 lipstick-shaped vibrator was fourth with 68 points and handbag-size £10 mini vibrator trailed in last with 57.
Testers said it left them feeling “disappointed”.
The sex toy test in the magazine’s May issue – which features cover girl Kylie Minogue – is only hinted at on the front page.
At the end of a list of “Tried and Tested” items from jam to steam cleaners, it merely mentions “our most intimate test ever”.
Good Housekeeping health director Julie Powell said: “Vibrators are no longer giggly gifts for hen nights, they are serious aids to sexual pleasure.
“In our tests, the champion was certainly delivered on looks as well as pleasure.”
Nine out of 10 women who tested them said they were now more likely to use a sex aid. And six out of 10 said they would not be embarrassed to own one.
