The Labour Party (LP) on Saturday, January 31, 2015 advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari to make a rethink of his decision to boycott the presidential debate as it will help inform the choice of Nigerians as to whether he (Buhari) is capable of ruling the country.
Speaking via a statement by its National Secretary, Kayode Ajulo, the LP says the debate would help put issues in the correct contest, shed light on topical issues and eliminate propaganda.
Parts of the statement read: “The excuse given by the APC candidate that the organisers were Federal Government agencies is not tenable because INEC too by law is a Federal Government agency.
“It then follows that if Buhari should boycott the debate, then he ought to also boycott the election since it is being organised by a federal agency (INEC).”Ajulo further explained that the expectations of Nigerians and the international community was that all contenders participate in the election so they would answer questions by their opponents satisfactorily, thereby making the choice of the electorate somewhat easy.
