LAGOS, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project will create direct employment for millions of Nigerians and benefit over 30 million people across the country.
The Nigerian president made this statement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the 700-kilometer highway at Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos State on Monday, May 27, 2024.
The ambitious infrastructure project, which also begins from Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, is set to bring significant economic and developmental benefits to Nigeria.
President Tinubu highlighted the project’s potential to provide both direct and indirect employment to thousands, boost economic opportunities, and enhance community development.
“The construction phase will offer direct and indirect employment to thousands, boost economic opportunities, and enhance community development,” Tinubu stated.
He emphasised that the road would improve access for about 30 million people to production and marketing centers, fostering economic growth.
The President assured that any financial and logistical challenges related to the project would be addressed, underlining its importance for development along the Nigerian coast.
“This 700-kilometer superhighway, a 10-lane road project, represents a crucial step in our efforts to enhance connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for our people,” President Tinubu said.
“It will provide direct employment for millions of people across coastal states and over 30 million citizens will benefit and have access to production and marketing centers.”
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project is expected to transform the transportation infrastructure along Nigeria’s coastline, providing a vital link between major economic hubs and rural areas.
The road will significantly reduce travel time, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and stimulate local economies along its route.
As the groundbreaking ceremony concluded, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the project and ensuring it enhances connectivity and economic growth.
