President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Adviser on School Agriculture, Baraka Sani on Saturday, March 28, 2015 escaped being lynched by irate thugs, suspected to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after she was prevented from voting in her ward.
The incident occurred as Sani attemoted to exercise her franchise in Jigriya Ward in Dakatar Quarters, Nasarrwa area of Kano State, when the thugs threw missiles at her, injuring two of her aides, who was rushed to the hospital.
An eye witness said on sighting Sani, the thugs began chanting: “Ba muayi, ba zaki ye zabe ba,” (We are not with you and will not allow you to vote)
Sani was later shielded back to her vehicle before she returned to the polling booth, this time in company of a team of the Army, Air Force, Directorate of State Security and the Police before she was able to cast her votes.
Still fuming from the encounter, Sani said: “Is that the kind of change Nigerians are yearning for, where Nigerians would be denied their constitutional right? Is this the kind of change that women will be summoned before the ICC?
“Is this the kind of change that the opposition is denigrating women that they will never again participate in the political process, limiting their freedom of expression, freedom and constitutional right?”
