The Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, who serves as Chairman of the Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku has expressed confidence that President Jonathan will have majority of votes in at least 21 states of the federation ahead of the Saturday, March 28, 2015 presidential election.
Kuku made the assertion in Owo, Ondo State at a stakeholders meeting with certain aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Senatorial District in the state.
Kuku added that with the coalition of the Labour Party (LP) and the PDP in the state, there was no chance for the APC to win votes.
He further analysed that President Jonathan will win in all six states in the South South region, all five states in the South East region and four in the South West region.
Kuku also believes that at least three states each in the North Central and North East zones will be won by President Jonathan, bringing it to a total of 21 states, adding that the PDP was working on getting at least 25% of votes in the North West.
Also speaking on the reconciliation moves in the state was PDP chieftain, Olusola Oke, who enthused that the meetings had started yielding results.
He said: “The mission is to sensitise our people and preach unity and to complement other efforts to maximise vote in this state for Mr. President and all other candidates.
“It’s been very successful, our people have been very receptive and let me assure you that since we commenced this exercise, the response of our people have been very tremendous and encouraging.
“The nose-diving trend of the fortune of the party in the state has been completely reversed. We can confidently say that the old member of PDP that were disenchanted have become active, interestingly become assured and willing to put in their best to ensure victory of our party and I must say that it has been a rewarding exercise.
“I have been part of the campaign organised under the leadership of the governor. I can confirm to you that a number of our members have refused to be part of that campaign.
“What we are doing here is to bring on board those who hitherto were not part of the campaign so that we can all work together. What we are doing is complementary to what has been done. We believe that for PDP to have the best result in Ondo State, everybody must be involved.
“The large army of members you saw here today are people who hitherto were unwilling to be part of the arrangement for the campaign that was being undertaken. We observed that the essence of having the Labour Party and the PDP together in Ondo State was to maximise votes in the state for our party.
“We observed that going along the way things were going would not give us that result. So, we have decided to go senatorial district by senatorial district to mobilise our people; to encourage them; to appeal to them to come out and work hard for our party,” he said.
“Thirdly, we resolved to return to our various wards and unit to maximise the returns from these levels for Mr. President. In this regard, it is our belief that Ondo State votes will be the highest in the South-west.
“We have also resolved unanimously that we would vote for PDP candidates in all the elections irrespective of the controversy that surrounded their emergence. We believe that PDP is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria and that we must sustain the party beyond 2015.”
