President Jonathan Postpones Inauguration Of Campaign Team Over Sister’s Death

President Goodluck Jonathan has shifted the inauguration of his campaign organisation from Monday. January 5, 2015 to Tuesday, January 6, 2015 as a result of the death of his sister, Nancy Jonathan-Oliei who passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2014.

The information was conveyed by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, at Legacy House, the PDP Presidential Campaign office and supposed venue of the inauguration.

Reports gathered have it that some expected guests and members of the campaign team were already seated before the announcement.

Alkali said: “As you are all aware, His Excellency lost his sister, Nancy Jonathan-Olei, yesterday morning. In view of this, the president has decided to suspend this inauguration for today until tomorrow at 11 a.m. Mr President has asked me to convey his apologies for the inconveniences this postponement has caused and to tell you it was due to circumstances beyond our control.”

A minute silence was observed for the late Jonathan-Olei.
