As collation of election results continue across the nation, President Goodluck Jonathan appears to be running away with the votes in Imo State, as he has opened a seemingly unassailable lead over his closest rival, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 11 out of the 27 local governments where collation of results have been collated.
According to results made available by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
President Jonathan has so far garnered 210,022 votes as against the 50,977 votes polled by General Buhari.
The local governments where result collation has been completed are: Ideato North, Isiala-Mbaino, Isu, Obowo, Ohaji-Egbema,. Okigwe, Owerri Municipal, Owerri West, Nwangene, Oru East and Ideato South LGAs.
In all the aforementioned local government areas, President Jonathan gathered more votes than General Buhari, except in Ideato South (the local government area of Governor Rochas Okorocha) where the former Head of State polled 12, 128 votes as against President Jonathan’s 6,406 votes.
