President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday, January 31, 2015 pledged to revitalise the moribund textile sector in Kaduna if re-elected as President in the Saturday, February 14, 2015 presidential polls.
He made the pledge while speaking at a People Democratic Party (PDP) presidential rally held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), Kaduna, noting the significant role the textile industry plays in the economy.
He said although Kaduna State has enjoyed certain gains in his administration like education and transportation, he would pay special attention towards resurrecting the textile industry.
The President said: “The greater thing we need to do within the next one year is to revive Kaduna textile industries. We understand that it will generate employment opportunities for our people.
“With power in place now, reviving these companies and ensuring continuity will now be easy. We must do everything to revive it.”
Also speaking at the rally was Senate President David Mark, who said the people of the state should vote President Jonathan so the transformation agenda of Mr. President would proceed.
Mark said: “Kaduna should not make the mistake of voting the wrong people because we are all looking up to the state. We must not allow those who will rig to succeed. We must stay and defend our votes.
“Mr President has the love of the country at heart than any other presidential candidate today. Here is a man who has done a lot for the country. The least you can do is to vote for him to continue his transformation agenda.”
