President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in a press release signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Reuben Abati congratulated the Nigerian contingent to the just concluded commonwealth games held in Glasgow, Scotland for their outstanding performance at the sporting spectacle.
President Jonathan sends his greeting to every athlete that won medals for the country, singling out Blessing Okagbare for special praise after the Delta state-trained athlete dominated the sprint events at the commonwealth games.
The President believes hard work, commitment, dedication, courage and patriotism coupled with an indomitable spirit were the reasons responsible for the country’s sterling performance which saw Nigeria finish in 8th position out of 71 participating countries.
The President says he looks forward to receiving and honouring the athletes and their coaches at the presidential villa, Abuja while promising that his administration will continue to do their best to support the development of sports in the country.
