The Outgoing President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 hold his last Council of State meeting scheduled to kick of by 11am prompt at the State House, Abuja, Nigeria.
The last time the council met was February consisting of The President as the chairman, his vice, Architect Namadi Sambo, all former presidents or former heads of state, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, all governors and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
One key responsibility of the council is to advise, peruse and proffer strategies with the President in the exercise of his power over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which includes the appointments of members of the commission.
It also behoves on the council to advise the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), in respect to the national census and compilation; prerogative of mercy: award of national honours; the National Judicial Council which includes the appointmet of the members, other than ex-officio and the National Population Commission alongside the appointment of its members.
The council is to also approve the appointment of the Inspector General of Police.
