We knew that immediately reports of President Muhammadu Buhari’s illness appeared in the press, that that Nigerian presidency would jump at the story denying it “with force”.
Rumour of Buhari’s health challenges have been circulating for some time now.

Our editors decided not to report it because we felt it would be an intrusion into his privacy at the time. We, also, believed that a responsible government would inform the Nigerian people of the president’s health challenges when he could no longer perform his duties as president.
Premium Times, an All Progressives Congress-leaning newspaper has reported on the president’s ill health and confirmed earlier reports that Buhari’s recent cancellations of important appearances is as a result of his sickness.
Buhari’s Illness Reports Refuted
Talk about predictable! Nigeria’s presidency has denied the report with spokesman, Femi Adesina saying that the president is “as fit as a fiddle”.
“Didn’t you see pictures of him receiving Anglican bishops yesterday (Friday)? Did he look sick? The president is as fit as a fiddle. Anyone who says he is sick is telling lies,” Adesina asked a journalist who enquired.
“That is a figment of the person’s imagination. Just yesterday he received the primate of the Anglican Communion and arch bishops at the presidential villa.
“He also received former President Olusegun Obasanjo (pictured). He is hale and hearty. The imagination of whoever says that is on overdrive,” Adesina continued in an attempt to refute reports of Buhari’s illness.
Premium Times reports that the president may be flown abroad for medical treatment as a result of intense pain in the left ear which is causing him to hear strange sounds.
“Buhari, 73, has travelled long haul in recent times, notably to China,UAE, US and Qatar, and some travellers are known to develop ear pains as a result of the pressurised cabin,” The Cable noted.
