President Muhammadu Buhari departed Nigeria for the 71st United Nations General Assembly Session which holds in New York next week.
The president left in the morning of Saturday, September 17, 2016. The presidency shared the photos of his departure ceremony on Facebook.
Buhari is reportedly scheduled to meet with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the UNGA. This would be Obama’s last appearance at the UNGA as president of the US.
Obama and Buhari are expected to talk about continued US support for security and economic changes in Nigeria, as well the government’s efforts to counter the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram.
President Obama is also scheduled to meet with presidents of Iraq and Colombia.
