President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 sacked his security details and other persons in Aso Villa for their role in the crisis between his wife, Aisha Buhari, and his assistant Sabiu “Tunde” Yusuf.
The sacked staff include Buhari’s Chief Personal Security Officer, Chief Detail to President, ADC to the First Lady, Escort Commander, ADC National Defence Council, and 37 others in Aso Villa.
The crisis began when Yusuf returned to Abuja from a trip to Lagos and refused to isolate himself for 2 weeks as expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He returned to the villa without self isolating but was denied access by the First Lady;s aides who insisted he self isolates. The disagreement escalated and resulted in shooting in the Aso Villa which led to subsequent arrest of Aisha’s aides.
President Buhari who had been silent over the crisis in Aso Villa decided to act after he saw Mamman Daura, his nephew and one of his closest confidants, weeping as he was on his way to his office.
When Buhari inquired, reports say Daura informed Buhari that his security aides were not only after Yusuf’s life but his own as well. This made Buhari order all persons involved in the alleged threat to be sacked.
