BOURNEMOUTH, United Kingdom – The Premier League, Luton Town’s match against Bournemouth was abruptly suspended following the collapse of team captain Tom Lockyer on the pitch on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
Lockyer, a central defender who has been with Luton since 2020, required immediate medical attention and was subsequently carried off the field during the second half of the game.
The 29-year-old Welsh footballer, who has earned 16 caps for his country, played a pivotal role in Luton’s ascent to the top-flight last season.
In response to the distressing event, Premier League authorities officially confirmed the suspension of the match.
A statement released by the league said, “The Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident. Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today’s match.”
