A cemetery around the Good-Morning Market in Abia is now a centre for hard drug criminals in the state, the Abia Police command has disclosed.
Adamu Ibrahim, the state commissioner of Police, in a statement said the cemetery was raided after a tip-off from a reliable source.
He said, “During the raid, seven suspects were arrested with some quantity of weeds suspected to be canabis.”
Further investigations revealed that the cemetery was not just a hideout for criminals but also a place where they converge to carry out illegal businesses.
According to the commissioner, “The hoodlums sell and smoke cocaine and canabis. Later they would go into the city to indulge in violent crimes, including robbery and kidnapping.”
However, Ibrahim assured the people that concrete plans were on ground to get the sponsors and accomplices of the suspects, warning that no criminal would be allowed to use any part of the state as an hideout.
The command also called on members of the public not to relent in rendering useful information that could help police track down criminal elements in the state, giving his word that the identity of such informers would not be compromised but treated with confidence.
