Luck has finally ran out on a popular group of armed robbers who have been operating in Osun and Kwara States as the Osun State Police Command recently arraigned them.
It was learnt that their capture was made following information at the disposal of the police operatives.
According to Daily Independent, among the thieves are, Abdulkazeem Ibrahim, Amos Gbenga, Eyinjodowo Kola and Afeez Mohammed.
Speaking on the development, the state commissioner of Police, Abukabar Marafa, said that command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, has made a great achievement.
Also, he maintained that the arrest was part of the measures embarked upon by the police command in their bid to ward off crime in the state of which they have recorded reasonable success.
The commissioner of police who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folashade Odoro, disclosed further that on 28 of August, 2014 at about 9:30pm the Dugbe Divisional Headquarters of the police were informed that one of the suspects was carrying guns in a sack sitting on a motorcycle.
According to Marafa, they immediately trailed the suspects towards Eko Ende road, Ikirun, in Ifelodun Local government area of the state during which one of them fired shots at a close range at the pursuer who was quite fortunate as the target at him was missed.
According to the CP, the brave complainant summoned courage, dragged the suspects down from the motorcycle and arrested the 31-year-old Abdulkareem Ibrahim with a pump action barrel gun, while others escaped.
“During the course of investigation by the Command SARS, the arrested suspect confessed that he belongs to a four-man robbery gang that has robbed several victims at Ikirun of their vehicles and other valuables.
He mentioned seven robbery incidents he carried out at Ikirun, Ilobu in Osun State and Kwara State respectively”, the CP added.
Furthermore, he said that they carried out series of investigations which led to the arrest of the other suspects.
Consequently, arms and ammunition were recovered from the hoodlum which included pump action gun with two life cartridges, one berretta long range assorted rifle with 13 rounds 7mm ammunition, one English Pump Action with 19 cartridges, one locally made double barrel gun, two dagger knives and assorted charms .
Marafa assured that the suspects would be prosecuted in the court and made to face the punishment at the end of the investigations.
