A 23-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl in Kome Village, in the Nebo policing area, over the weekend.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, the South African Police Service, SAPS, spokesperson in Limpopo, said the incident occurred on Saturday, 20 August at approximately 19:00.
According to information provided to the police, the suspect and the victim were walking in Kome Village. She received a phone call and the suspect accused her of cheating on him before allegedly stoning her to death.
“The police were called and on arrival at the scene, the victim was found lying with fatal injuries. She was identified as Promise Tjatji,” said Seabi.
The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences, FCS, Unit is tasked with the investigation. The suspect was arrested.
He is expected to face a murder charge in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 23 August.
In an unrelated incident, in Mpumalanga, a man allegedly murdered his girlfriend’s lover in Bushbuckridge after he found them in the house together. The accused, Shakwane Muzi, 38, allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and the deceased with a brick before hacking them with a garden hoe. The man died at the scene, and the woman survived. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
