The 52-year-old victim died after being attacked in a flat in Scotstoun early this morning. Police believe the suspect forced his way into the property before carrying out the attack.
Police have launched a murder hunt after a man died following a disturbance in a flat in Glasgow this morning.
Emergency services were called to the block on Dumbarton Road shortly before 1am where they found the 52-year-old victim seriously injured.
He died at the scene a short time later.
Officers taped off the neighbouring blocks of flats on the stretch of road this morning as forensic officers began their examination of the scene.
A white tent was covering the doorway to the block and a police incident van was parked outside.
Earlier a woman had arrived at the scene screaming before collapsing on the floor.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Smith said: “Our enquiries are at a very early stage to establish the circumstances which led to the death of this man. Although a post mortem examination will be carried out, we are treating his death as murder.
“At this time, It is believed that a man arrived at the flat around 0050 hours, forced his way into the house and assaulted the victim who was not the householder.
“It is not clear what the motive was but it was not a random act. It would appear that the victim was the intended target however at this time it is unclear why.”
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’6 to 5’7” medium to skinny build with short fair hair, wearing a light coloured top.
Area Commander Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland said: “I would like to reassure members of the public, particularly those who live in the area of the flats, that everything is being done to trace the person responsible.
“I am aware that local residents will be shocked and alarmed by this incident, however extra patrols will be in the area and I would urge anyone who has concerns to speak to the officers.”
One local resident said she heard “commotion” coming from inside the property in the early hours.
She said: “At about 2am I came home from my work and heard loud voices inside. I’ve never seen so many police in this street in my life.”
Forensics were seen going into the property just after 10.30am and a team of police officers were carrying out door to door enquiries at the surrounding flats and businesses.
