The police in Lagos State on Friday, May 27, 2016 arraigned a 48 year old man, Richard Akinsiku, before the a Surulere Magistrate court for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl.
Akinsiku was said to have lured the 9 year old into his room with biscuit as his bait and raped her.
The victim is the child of a co-tenant in the Obanikoro area of Lagos.
Daily Post reports that the accused committed the offense at 5pm on May 5, 2016 at his apartment in the absence of the child’s parents.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Osayande Anthonia said the incident was reported at Pedro Police Station, while the accused was immediately arrested.
According to her, the offence contravened section 137 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The chief magistrate, Mrs. Ekpaye Nwachukwu, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must produce evidence of tax payment to the state government as part of the bail conditions.
The case was then adjourned to August 2, 2016 for mention.
