Three men where arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in an uncompleted building in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.
According to a police report, the victim was kidnapped and taken into an uncompleted building by the suspects who took turns in raping her.
Three out of the five suspects were arrested, while the others escaped.
The suspects, identified as Shittu Taiwo 23, Riliwan Alao 32, and Sunday Akinyele 27 are charged with two counts of rape.
The charge reads, “That you, Shittu Taiwo, Riliwan Alao, Sunday Akinyele and two others at large on June 4, 2014, at about 2am in an uncompleted building along Giwa Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: rape.
“That you and others at large did have unlawful sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl (name withheld).
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the above charges and opted for summary trial.
The police prosecutor, DSP Etim Nkankuk, said the offence was punishable under sections 409 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
However, their defence counsel, F.S. Oladele, pleaded for their bail in liberal terms and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Demi-Ajayi, granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
