Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra, gave a rousing speech at The Platform on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in which he broke down measures that he took to cut government waste during his tenure.
It was both inspiring and thought-provoking and the speech has gone viral.
Obi, who is known as the only governor who created a ‘Sovereign Wealth Fund’ in his state, leaving behind $155 million in savings and zero debt.
Obi weighed in on the current debate of how to get Nigeria out of recession, central of which, is the sale of the country’s national oil assets. He challenged the notion that we need to “spend out of recession”. He challenged the governments to cut waste, reduce governor’s entitlements, reduce cost, reengineer the procurement system, and remove unnecessary perks of office.
He used his tenure as governor of Anambra as an example.
The Platform is an annual leadership and national empowerment forum founded by Pastor Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Centre.
