Plateau PDP Crisis Continues As Executive Members Holds Parallel Meetings

Must read

Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Haruna Dabin has disclosed that members of the state executive council of the party now hold parallel meetings at will, without his consent.

This  action was spurred on following his refusal to vacate his chairmanship seat of the party after he made known his  intention to run as governor of the state in 2015 election.

Dabin also revealed that the state secretary was calling for a state executive meeting on Monday, June 16, 2014  at the Presidential Lodge, Jos, without going through the proper procedures.

ThisDay reports:

The crisis rocking the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not about to be resolved yet as members of the state executive council of the party now convene parallel meetings at will, without consulting the Chairman, Dr. Haruna Dabin.

Dabin had recently declared his intention to run for the state governorship in 2015.

Since the declaration, the leadership of the party in the state had been thrown into crisis, with some members urging Dabin to vacate his chairmanship seat of the party.

Dabin said he had uncovered plans by the party Secretary to create disunity among members of the party in the state.

In a statement, he said he gathered that the state secretary was calling for a state executive meeting today at the Presidential Lodge, Jos, without his knowledge, warning that the secretary was not directed to call for the purported meeting.

While disassociating himself from the said meeting, Dabin said: “The Chairman and members of the state working committee (SWC) are not aware of the purported meeting as being convened by the state secretary.”

He, therefore, called on those invited to shun the invitation and disregard the said meeting, emphasising that the secretary lacked the constitutional rights to call for such gathering without a directive from him.

“Members of state executive committee should therefore disregard the notice and press statements convening the purported meeting as the aforementioned convener lacks the constitutional powers to convene such a meeting.”

Dabin however, said an authentic emergency meeting of the state working committee was fixed for today at the state secretariat of the party.

He said: “An emergency meeting of the state working committee had earlier been slated for June 16, 2014 by 10a.m. at the state secretariat of the party.”
