Marking the 2015 ArmedForces day themed “Appreciating the Nigerian Armed Forces”, President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator David Mark and other top military officials were at the center in Abuja on Sunday, January 11, 2015 for an Interdenominational Church Service.
Speaking at the event, President Jonathan urged Nigerians to be dedicated in their prayers for members of the Armed Forces and their families for all their efforts in the war against terrorism in Nigeria.
He said: “Let me call on all Nigerians to continue to pray for the armed forces, their families and their wives because it is not easy to be wife of a soldier especially when he is posted to a state like Borno.
“We know what they are passing through; they need our prayers; we have to commend, encourage and support them.”
The president also reaffirmed the commitment of his government to continue to support and equip the military to enable them protect the citizens.
The officiating minister, Samuel Uche of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, praised the Armed Forces for their patriotism in their brave fights within and outside Nigeria.
The cleric attributed the challenges faced by the army in the fight against the deadly Islamic sect Boko Haram to the activities of saboteurs in the military and the political class.
“Arresting the menace of Boko Haram is proving difficult because of the many disgruntled elements who are involved.
He called on the federal government to provide the military with sophisticated equipment and all they need to effectively fight terrorism in the country.
