ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has demanded the immediate transfer of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ogun and Nasarawa states, as well as other Election Tribunals, to Abuja for safety and guarantee of justice.
The call was made during a news conference addressed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Ologunagba condemned recent attacks on PDP members at Governorship Election Petition Tribunal premises in Ogun, Nasarawa, and Kaduna.
He alleged that there were plots to continue these attacks in an attempt to instill fear in the judiciary and thus derail the cause of justice.
The party’s spokesperson called for live coverage of tribunal proceedings, suggesting that such a move would reduce the necessity for party members to be physically present at the premises.
In addition to this, Ologunagba accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of attempting to derail the cause of justice in the various Election Petition Tribunals across the country.
He claimed that INEC’s objection to presenting its evidence in court was a tactic designed to frustrate the proceedings.
As for the inauguration of the 10th Assembly slated for June 13, 2023, Ologunagba stated that the PDP plans to utilize its numbers to influence the election of the National Assembly’s leaders.
He emphasized that opposition parties, when combined, hold a strong majority in the National Assembly.
Despite the ongoing rumors in the media, Ologunagba maintained that the PDP has a clear strategy, and the unity among its members will be evident during the inauguration of both Houses of the National Assembly next Tuesday.
