The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has been rocked by crisis in recent times hit another low as members of the zonal executive council sacked interim chairman, Ishola Filani on Wednesday, September 4, 2014.
The decision was reached after the 12-man exective passed a vote of no confidence on his administration and elected Mr. Lanre Orimoloye as his replacement.
The council issued a communique at the end of the extraordinary executive meeting at the PDP zonal office in Ibadan, Oyo state in line with sections 27, 4 and 3 of the PDP constitution.
Guardian NG reports:
They accused the embattled Filani of high handedness and inability to carry other members of the party leadership along in his decisions.
“The meeting also reviewed the activities of the zone since the emergence of the caretaker committee, alleging that Filani has been running a one-man show and has not carried the members along in the running, finance and other statutory issues of the zone”, the party stated.
It therefore resolved that “for the smooth running of the zone, the meeting hereby appoints Hon. Lanre Orimoloye- the Zonal Treasurer to act in his place and Arc. Ayo Olowofoyeku the Zonal Ex-Officio from Osun State to act as the Zonal Treasurer”.
Reacting to his removal, Chief Filani said he was not aware of any meeting as the chairman of the zone, adding that he did not commit any offence to warrant any sanction from other members of executive.
On the allegation that he did not summon a meeting at the normal periods of two weeks which the party’s constitution allows, he said that he did not know which section of the constitution that made it mandatory for him to organize a meeting, adding that he was expecting the meeting of the executive to hold today and not yesterday.
After his removal, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Lawal, said the former chairman would still be welcomed to the zonal meeting but would have to take permission from the new acting chairman before contributing to the party’s decision.
The new executive used the occasion to urge President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his intention to contest the 2015 presidential elections.
Members of the executive present include Chief Adepegba Otemolu, Secretary, Chief Mrs. Wunmi Osinroluke-Eube, zonal women leader, Bolaji Jeje, zonal youth leader, Mr. Waheed Lawal, zonal publicity secretary, and others.
