A faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the zoning of the national chairmanship to the North East, saying the zoning party pattern adopted by the 1/3 members that was inconsistent with the party rules.
The party leaders are therefore calling for a shift of the May 21, 2016 national congress to make opportunity for adjustment in the zoning arrangement. The meeting was convened under the auspices of Concerned PDP Leaders led by former governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu.
In a statement signed by Aliyu and released to the press on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, the PDP leaders said the congress would be marred by disaffection from members, noting that the zoning arrangement was wrong, even as it faulted the 1/3 membership that attended the meeting from where the zoning arrangement evolved.
According to the statement, “The leaders observed as follows: that the procedure and conduct of the congresses nationwide were flawed with resultant disaffection and disagreements.
“Furthermore, the current zoning formula for the position of national chairman as adopted by only 1/3 (One-Third) of NEC is inconsistent with the original PDP principles.
“In consonance therefore, the group unanimously resolved as follows; call for the postponement of the national convention and appeal to the leadership of the party to revisit these fundamental issues to enable the party to organize and conduct a more cohesive and acceptable national convention to avert the situation whereby aggrieved members may be compelled to organize parallel congress/convention”.
The Concerned PDP Leaders was led by Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu. Other members of the group are Dr. Bala Mohammed, Hon. Mrs. Zainab Maina; John Odey; Hon Sulaiman Abubakar; Capt. Hassan Mohammed (rtd); Saidu Ndako Idris; Hon. Dr. Bolere Ketebu, and Hon. Kaulaha Aliyu
