ABUJA, Nigeria – The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has announced it is strategically withholding details of its plans concerning the new national assembly leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, revealed this during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Ologunagba hinted at the formation of a strong coalition between opposition parties in the National Assembly.
“With regards to the current race for Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, it is instructive to note that the opposition parties put together form a strong majority in the National Assembly, and we are very mindful of that,” he said.
Ologunagba noted that while media speculation around PDP’s plans continues, the party has a definitive course of action.
“The PDP has a clear direction which we hold close to our chest, our members are united in that direction, and it will show on the floor of both Houses of the National Assembly on Tuesday, June 13, 2023,” he stated.
The PDP spokesman also highlighted the party’s ongoing efforts to reclaim what it describes as its ‘stolen Presidential mandate’ through the courts.
Ologunagba criticized the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, accusing them of trying to frustrate the legal process and undermine the course of justice.
Further, he condemned alleged APC-led attacks on PDP members at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal premises in Ogun, Nasarawa, and Kaduna states, describing these incidents as part of a larger scheme aimed at instilling fear and derailing justice.
PDP is now demanding the immediate relocation of the Ogun and Nasarawa Election Tribunals to Abuja, arguing this is necessary to ensure the safety of all concerned and the fair delivery of justice.
Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom and former minister of the Niger Delta, has emerged as the preferred candidate for the presidency of the Nigerian Senate. He is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who join the race for the presidency in the last election.
