Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors will on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 meet with President Goodluck Jonathan to declare their concerns over the cancellation of their consensus endorsement of candidates ahead of the 2015 election by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
According to Vanguard, the PDP governors forum headed by Akwa Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio will meet with President Jonathan at the Presidential villa around 9pm with reports saying some of the governors were already in Abuja ahead of the proposed meeting.
The source also availed that the governors will meet first with party chairman Adamu Muazu around 3 pm at his residence in Asokoro, adding that the governors plan to hold the meeting over the proposed primaries to be held for party aspirants and also to allay their unhappiness that the NWC had cancelled their endorsements to Muazu.
Th governors will seek to discuss the sale of forms, especially governorship forms, as the governors wish to endorse their own candidate, just as they had endorsed president Jonathan as the party’s consensus presidential candidate, an endorsement which was supported by the party’s hierarchy.
A statement by the PDP NWC, signed by the party’s national secretary Wole Oladipo and dated Thusday, october 9, 2014 read in parts: “The National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting today, Thursday, October 9, 2014 noted that some elected officers of our great party at the state level have continued to engage in processes aimed at endorsing candidates for the 2015 general elections despite warnings from the national leadership that they, as unbiased umpires should not involved in such.
“The NWC strongly frowns at this development and issues this as a final warning to all elected party officials and chapters at all levels, and shall not hesitate to sanction such erring officers or chapters.
“The sanctity of our nomination processes must be protected at all times. We therefore wish to assure all party members that there shall be a level playing ground for all aspirants intending to participate in the nomination processes.”
