Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and chairman of the North-East and North-west election review team of the PDP, Alhaji Suiabu Oyedokun has said that the party leadership has engaged experts from the International Republican Institute, IRI to review the findings and recommendations of the committee to clinical analysis.
A report from the Vanguard, the experts were engaged to ensure neutrality of members of the committee and the leadership of the party. It was also gathered that all aggrieved members of the party were regrouping to come back under one umbrella and rebuild the party.
According to the report, Oyedokun, after a meeting with representatives from the North-west Zone, assured members of the party that the committee would not be partisan but would come out with recommendations that would reposition the party to regained its lost glory.
He said the PDP was focused on regaining its lost glory. He noted that party members and stakeholders have realized the mistakes made at the last general elections and that the party have put together a committee to examine the factors responsible for the abysmal performance of the party after being in power for last sixteen years.
The National Working Committee of the PDP appointed Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu to head the Election Review Committee of the party.
Oyedokun said; “This is an innovation in our party and in the country in general, that is why most of us who are also founding fathers of the party decided to partake in the assignment despite the fact that we are in the fasting period because we don’t normally fix political activities for this period because it is a rigorous exercise,we have to sacrifice a lot in the interest of the party and our great nation.”
“The Committee then decided to send various teams to the six geo political zones to receive representations fomr the members and here we are our committee was posted to the North East and the North West, We thank God that in course of our moving round we have been able to discover among other things that anger, misunderstanding and internal ranging among others which I will not mention here responsible for our failure as a party at the polls”.
“It is interesting to note that we have been able to receive representations from various groups and individuals, the representations were not only thoroughly debated but they were all adopted, we have been able to appeal to all aggrieved individuals and groups and the responses are very favourably, they are all interested in returning to under one umbrella once again ahead of 2019 general elections.”
Some members of the committee; Comrade Abba Moro, a former minister and Senator Ibrahim Kazaure, expressed optimism that efforts being made by the leadership of the party, PDP would yield positive results.
Abba Moro urged members of the party to forge ahead in the in the interest of the party and put all that happened at the last polls behind them.
Senator Kazaure added that concerted efforts should be made to reunite ahead of 2019 general elections since the party is on ground in every corner of the country.
