Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday, August 4, 2016 formally zoned the national chairmanship position of the main opposition party in Nigeria to the South West geo-political zone.
In a meeting attended by leaders of the party from the Southern Nigerian states, the PDP also zoned the positions of national treasurer and deputy national publicity secretary to the South West.
The positions of first deputy national chairman, national legal adviser, deputy national woman leader, and deputy national auditor were zoned to the South South.
The national organising secretary, national youth leader, and deputy national financial secretary were zoned to the South East.
Addressing journalists at the end of the meeting, Nigeria’s deputy senate president, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu said that despite the zoning of the positions, any party member willing to contest any position is free to do.
Ekweremadu, also advised party members from the southern Nigeria to respect the zoning formula.
The meeting was attended by governors, elected members of the National Assembly and former ministers from the Souther states.
